Technicians in wolf's clothing

Greetings everyone!  I'm Jayna Sheffield at the business desk and I'd like to end this week by issuing a warning to you about those technicians in wolf's clothing.  In short, you need to pay closer attention to those technicians who say that they can.
With the Christmas/holiday season on us, you're going to see more and more persons who are calling themselves software and hardware technicians, but in actuality they are nothing more than inexperienced, reckless, and don't give a darn individuals.  For the past month we have received several emails from our readers telling of horror stories re technicians making a total mess of their hard drives, their software, and just walking out and not taking responsibility for it.  In addition, some of them work for these so-called fly by night companies who are also unwilling to make their technicians accountable for what they've done.
These types of technicians and companies entice you by saying that they can come right to your home and do what's necessary for you.  Their rates for service calls and support packages are quite attractive, but they don't have any office that you can visit.  Instead, they work on the road and yes, they have a website that you can visit and take a look at their profile but that's as far as you can go.  They take great pains to avoid accountability and responsibility and they don't seem to care really too much.
They're really good at showing up at your home when you call and they are even better at telling what they can do but as for actually doing it?  I'm afraid that they talk the talk but don't walk the walk.
We've had over 100 emails in the past month telling us of these types of companies and individuals who have come to their homes and their job was to do such basic things such as:
Defragment a hard drive, transfer data from the hard drive of the customer's computer to a diskless drive, port emails from one browser to another, carry out windows updates,  re-image a hard drive, plus other similar types of functions.
According to these emailers, these technicians somehow managed to turn simple jobs into memorable nightmares and their companies don't seem to care.  No accountability and no responsibility.  You can bet your last dollar that during this time of year there are going to be persons in need of technical support and these companies with their rat pack of technicians are only just waiting out there to take advantage of your vulnerability.  Please be careful!  Don't fall for those attractive rates!  Pay the extra money and stay safe.  Check out the company and the technician.  Make sure that they're reputable.  Don't go by what their website says.  Dig deeper.  Use the Internet to do your research and also phone the better business bureau in your area and carry out a check there.
Don't be fooled by a nice looking website with lots of words and nice icons.  No!  don't.  We have recently been receiving several complaints about a company called Nerds Onsite.  Their url is www.nerdsonsite.com.  According to our readers and clients, stay away from this company.  They talk a good talk but really don't back up what they say and their technicians or most of them are simply not qualified enough to do what they say they can.
Have a great weekend.
