I believe that the trick of the trade may be to find products and services that consumers are really seeking.  Let's look at this bag of Irish dirt thing a bit more.  America is home to practically generations of millions of persons with Irish backgrounds and we all know how sentimental the Irish could be when it comes to their homeland.  The Irish are extremely patriotic and are well known for their emotional wakes.  So, it should not be too surprising that this idea would take off. 

Of course there are dozens of other ideas that you could think of.  How about the guys who practically invented the market for bottled water?  Those who brought us the pet rock and the rubrics cube?  The young Canadian men who brought us Trivia Pursuit?  The British company who are selling eggs with invisible ink that indicates how cooked the eggs are when placed in a pot of boiling water?  Then how about the man in Ottawa Canada who started off by selling nails in the basement of his house and 19 years later he has several stores across Canada that sell all kinds of tools?
