Employers using Google to check out perspective employees

Hey there!  I'm Alix Shadonnay at the business desk.  This evening I'd like to tell you about a growing trend taking place among American Companies and you may want to take note if you're one of those looking for a job.
In a recent survey it was revealed that more than 70% of American companies are now using Google to run checks on perspective employees.  The traditional way of resumes and references are still in but many companies are now turning to the Internet to conduct further checks on perspective employees.  Of course, Google may not always turn up enough info on a perspective employee, but if you're smart you'll do something real fast to create an online presence that will help you to look good in the eyes of others.
Things have changed since I first started looking for a job which was more than 15 years ago.  The Internet has been mainly responsible for this and it's probably going to stay this way for a very long time to come so get used to it.  If you frequent chat-rooms, then you should not use your real name.  If you have a website then fill it with lots of testimonials about you from others if possible.  Make your website professional, easy to access, and easy to understand.  Use the Internet to build your credibility as it's another source of reference.
I'm not saying that you should ignore the good old paper resume all together.  No, not at all. You should continue to use the resume but use it in combination with the creation of an Internet presence.  We live in times when employers are going to be much more cautious when hiring someone new.  We live in times when safety and security are the two prime factors when it comes to checking out a person.  We are living in times when employers are using the Internet more and more to conduct electronic investigations.  So, you need to adapt your job search methods to suit.
Sometimes you would be surprised to know what a Google search can reveal.  Google is one of the most popular search engines and employers are using Google more and more to help carry out references.  Nothing wrong with that as long as your slate is clean and you have done all the correct things.  Time for you to work on creating your online profile and presence.
If you're looking for ways to convince employers that you're for real, that you are really serious about your perspective job, then take the time to create online professional information.  No, don't lie!  Tell the truth and do things to enhance your character.  Things that can be easily checked out through Google.
