Canadian companies doing something special to keep and motivate employees

Greetings everyone!  I'm Jayna Sheffield at the business desk and this evening I'd like to bring your attention to a report that came across our desk that was sent to us  by our Ottawa Canada bureau.
It appears that many Canadian companies are doing something a bit different these days in order to keep and motivate their employees.  It's nothing really strange to the corporate world but I'd like to call it a resurrected strategy.  Way back in the 70s and 80s IBM used this strategy to motivate and keep their employees and at that time it worked wonders for Big Blue but IBM dropped it in the 90s because they found it a bit costly to maintain.  This strategy is now making the rounds among many of the top Canadian companies and according to a recent report released by Statistics Canada, it is working.
So, what is this magic potion all about?  Nothing really out of this world, nothing too drastic or too sophisticated, and nothing that does not make perfect sense.  Many top Canadian companies these days are using the carrot rather than the big stick to motivate their employees and stimulate their imaginations.  They are sending their employees on such events as get away weekends or short holidays to lavish retreats or resorts.  They're also sending them on fun vacations and one day fun events.  One day breaks such as golf tournaments, to spas, lavish breakfasts and lunches, plus more.  These companies are using their imaginations to create days of relaxation for their employees but there is a wee twist to this.  While they are whining and dining their employees, they are also using these fun times to throw in a few company moments whereby they hold informal sessions that encourage employees to think, create, innovate, speak up on issues that are important to them, and they also give presentations on the company's business of the day.
In the words of one Canadian CEO:  "What we're doing here is nothing new.  We've just gone and dug up an old strategy and with a few touch ups we've put it back into the system and it's working great.  We are using these fun times to motivate our employees, encourage them to tell us how they feel, and we're rewarding them for work well done.  Since we started this which was last year, our productivity has improved markedly and employee morale has gone up."
From another Canadian CEO:  "We're using these special events to reward those employees who are working hard, and we're also using them to encourage others to follow suit.  What we're finding in our company is that many employees are trying to out perform each other in order to be rewarded with these special moments and it's working."
Other CEOs are saying that they are finding that it's worth the while to spend this type of money iin order to boost company morale, motivate employees to work harder, and the relationship between management and employees is also being helped.  Some American companies are also starting to use the carrot over the stick and I for one am glad to see the rebirth of this trend.
Before you leave us this evening, please check out our book Untapped Wealth Discovered.  You can read all about it at www.untappedwealth.com.  Untapped Wealth Discovered has been written by two very savvy authors of the day and they bring a very refreshing and logical face to the business world.  Their book is based on logic, common sense, real markets, and proven strategies that are not based on any type of get rich quick schemes, broken promises, or false scams.
